RASF1 chat room

Welcome to the RASF1 Chatroom. RASF1 is the Usenet newsgroup rec.autos.sport.f1 . This chatroom was created as a place for the members of the RASF1 community to talk in real time, whether about Formula One or (more frequently) anything else that comes to mind. Whether you're a regular poster to RASF1, a lurker or just someone interested in F1 (even if you're not), you'll be welcome.

There are 2 ways to access the RASF1 Chatroom. The most obvious is to use the Java applet on this page. A couple of commands to note: /float creates a new window for the chat, rather than having to stare at the one embedded in the middle of a webpage. And /quit is for when you've had enough of us.

The other way is to use an IRC client - a program to access Internet Relay Chat directly. There are many available for free download from the Web; I use mIRC (http://www.mirc.com/) but there are several others. Point your client to channel #rasf1 on the irc.webchat.org server.

When you're in the chatroom you may notice a couple of people with an @ by their name. These are channel operators, or Ops, which basically mean we can change the room topic (feel free to ignore it) or eject serious troublemakers - so watch it ;-) Feel free to contact one or more of us for more information about the chatroom or to comment on it, especially if you feel we're not doing our job properly or not making you feel welcome. Remember though - the best way to feel welcome is to join in the conversation! Here's a list of channel operators at present:

Bumble Bee "Simon" Boy 2 : simon@cmcuk.demon.co.uk
Chantil "Chanted" Sinclair : chantil.sinclair@ntlworld.com
Emma "ChocMonster" Crawley : emma@excalvehs.demon.co.uk
Ian "Insane" Hill : ianhill@crosswinds.net
Marc P "Lardyburger" Gregoire : pdgreg@telusplanet.net
Martin "BVG-Man" Schmidt : BdVP@gmx.de
Matt "Scrxisi" Scrivin: scrxisi@yahoo.co.uk
Peter "Cooeee" Scoular : scoular@ntlworld.com

Finally a couple of acknowledgements: thanks to Marc P Gregoire for getting us onto the IRC track in the first place. Thanks also Kulvinder Singh Matharu for getting us moved to this more reliable irc.webchat.org server. And last but not least, thanks to Rachael Nex for making this whole thing semi-official and for keeping us Ops in order. ;-)
